Paula Ferris, Centered Pilates Instructor

Fitness has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I found pilates in 2000 and was instantly hooked. I loved the challenge it provided. It was unlike any other form of exercise I had ever experienced. I described it as feeling as if I had worked all the way down to my bones. It was deep work that left me feeling elongated and “zipped up” from head to toe. I knew very shortly after beginning my own practice that I wanted to teach this method and introduce it to as many people as I can.

My study of pilates and movement in general began with anatomy training at Brian Utting in Seattle. From there, I went to Bastyr University for cadaver training to further my understanding of the human body. I was fascinated and went on to classes in Los Angeles with Anatomy in Clay, a hands on experiential anatomy course. I continue to read and study every anatomy book I can get my hands on.

My instructor certification comes from Balance Within in Redmond and is the result of over 700 hours of training. I have also studied with Madeline Black, Marie Jose Blom, Mari Winsor, Lolita San Miguel and Alan Herdman. Lolita San Miguel is a master teacher who studied under Joseph Pilates. I travel to pilates conferences regularly and take advanced training with some of the best instructors in the world. There is always more to learn! I love that challenge. I continue to practice pilates on a personal basis and find this makes me a better teacher as I feel the work as I teach it.

My studio is fully equipped with Peak Pilates equipment. It is my company of choice. My private studio was built as a personal oasis for each and every client that comes through my door. A spa –like studio was my intention. I put in fun, funky wall colors, a warm gas fireplace, cherry hardwood floors, French doors and a full bathroom. I keep my ipod loaded with a mixture of music that my clients really love! I love my studio and I love to teach.
